" Love one another as I have loved you."
Our usual daily news headlines include features and examples of hatred, violence, wars and its victims, natural disasters, discrimination, divisive politics and at times the effects of climate change on our planet and its people. All of these things can be overwhelming and depressing because we may feel that we can not fight the battles, comfort the suffering or save the planet. However we can make a difference through intercessory prayer. Intercessory prayer is a distinct and specific form of prayer wherein an individual or small group prays on behalf of others. In Luke 22: 32 Jesus showed us how to pray this way when he said to Simon: ..." I have prayed (or you) that your own faith may not fail."
Our parish intercessory prayer group began in 2015 specifically to pray on behalf of our Gardner Catholic community which was facing the painful reality of parish and church closures.
We have been gathering twice a month for the last 9 years. We currently meet at 1:30 on Monday afternoons in the Parish Center. Our prayer now has a broader focus which includes all of God's people and all creation. We have witnessed and continue to witness, the power and fruitfulness of our prayer.
If you are feeling powerless to help ease the suffering of the world consider becoming a part of this ministry of praying on behalf of others. Contact Louise Plamondon through the parish office.
