The ministry to the sick and homebound (or "Pastoral Care Ministry") provides connection, support, visitation, and sacramental support for those who are unable to come to one of the church buildings for Mass.
This ministry maintains Pastoral Care Teams at the following nursing and care facilities. In addition to providing pastoral support to resident who request it, a monthly Mass is also celebrated on site:
- Wachusett Manor
- Heywood Commons
- Gardner Rehab and Nursing Center (formerly "Legends")
- Garwest / Gardner Housing Tower
This ministry also coordinates individual Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound who go to private homes to provide support and bring the Lord in the Eucharist for communion. These individuals assess when there is a need for a priest (for confession or the Sacrament of the Sick) and then make arrangements for this sacramental support.
We are always interested to speak to individuals who would like to join one of our Pastoral Care Teams, or have ideas of where a team is needed in the community. Individuals who are trained and commissioned as Eucharistic Ministers may participate as Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound. Such ministers receive their own list of individuals with whom they establish a relationship and minister to on a schedule they establish with the individual.
We also welcome Middle, High School students who wish to participate along with an adult minister.
Young Adults are encouraged to contact the coordinator as well about becoming a minister.
